Highlander Not Heading For Theaters

When last we left the Highlander franchise, there was only really one good movie in the mix (the original one) and a fairly decent television series that had started to take over the franchise. The latest movie Highlander: The Source had been pushed back and then returned to editing in order to “improve” the picture before the movie’s September release.

Well, apparently there was no way to truly “fix” the issues with the film because Lionsgate has pulled the film from their theatrical release schedule. Actually, it’s not listed on their DVD release schedule either. Instead Highlander: The Source is now being listed as an “original movie” for Sci Fi network, making its debut on September 15th.

That’s right, the latest Highlander flick has skipped theaters, skipped being “straight to DVD” and is now straight to television. That’s got to hurt, especially since that makes this yet another movie in a line of films missing theaters for star Adrian Paul.

Frankly, I hope this puts the final nail in the Highlander coffin. I loved the original movie, liked the series, but it’s time for this to come to an end. Clearly there’s not enough to build with to put out a decent product, and a direct to television movie just isn’t going to help that. Let the last immortal die and let the Highlander battles come to an end.
