The Host Photos Show Saoirse Ronan Surrounded By Aliens And Falling

While the final Twilight movie continues its box office success, the feature adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's non-vampire novel The Host is set to arrive in theaters in a matter of months. We've seen the recently released trailer, and now a bevy of new photos from the sci-fi film have made their way online, showing us Saoirse Ronan's characters Melanie and Wanderer.

Directed by Andrew Niccol, The Host is set on earth after aliens called "souls" have inhabited the bodies of most of the human population. Ronan stars as Wanderer, the soul who has taken the body of Melanie Stryder, a girl who was a part of what's left of the human resistance and who continues to resist from inside her mind as Wanderer controls her body. The trailer gave us a look at the set-up for the story, which includes a love triangle (or quadrangle) between Melanie (Ronan), her boyfriend Jared (Max Irons), Wanderer (Ronan) and another non-inhabited human Ian (Jake Abel), who takes a liking to Wanderer.

Among the newly released photos are these two, which appear to show the scene in which Melanie is surrounded by Seekers - the souls assigned to capture resisting humans and bring them in for habitation - and one where she's falling. This is presumably the scene at the start of the story that leads to her injuries prior to being inhabited.

The building fall would be a slight alteration from the book, in which Melanie drops down an elevator shaft in what is essentially a suicide attempt to avoid being occupied. It's featured in the trailer, and it's not especially hard to understand why they might go for a slightly grander (and better lit) display of Melanie's defiance than having her disappear down an elevator shaft.

From a building isn't the only way Ronan's character is falling. There are also the mentioned love stories, which is where Max Irons and Jake Abel's characters come in...

The above photos come from The site has six more images from the movie for fans to check out.

The Host arrives in theaters March 29, 2013. More information, photos and the trailer can be found in our Blend Film Database.
