Incredible New Dark Knight Poster

I was almost fed up with reporting on Dark Knight promotional materials—just release the damn movie already!—but then I saw this new poster for the movie I thought had exhausted its supply of awesome posters. ComingSoon.net, the lucky ducks, have the full, glorious image, and you can see a smaller version of it at right.

Since it’s probably hard to see the fine details, the image of Batman you see is composed of a series of Joker cards—of course—painted with Batman’s face. Scratched into Batman is a series of Joker catchphrases familiar by now, like “To them, you’re just a freak like me” and “It’s simple. Kill the Batman!” For extra flourish, there’s a ghoulish, red smile draped across Batman’s mouth, and a series of “Ha ha ha”s forming the shape of—you guessed it—the bat signal. Lying on top of the entire image is a scalpel, as if the Joker has just walked away from his insane work of art.

Yeah. You’ve really got to see it big. I thought I had reached the highest level of possible excitement for this movie, especially as the first screening reports come in, but something about this poster just taps into that chilling aspect of the film that’s the most appealing to me. Comic book movies are one thing, but this seems to be a whole different animal. Just wait until we have more to talk about than just the posters!
