Iron Man 3 Headed To Blu-ray And DVD In September, Will Get Early Digital Release

Marvel and Disney have been putting together epic Blu-ray and DVD sets for a little while, and the two companies look as if they will be staying true to form for the Iron Man 3 release. Walt Disney Home Entertainment announced the release on Friday, noting that the "3D Super Set", Blu-ray and DVD versions will hit shelves on September 24. However, fans who are just interested in catching Tony Stark on his latest adventure and through some marital spats with Pepper Potts will be able to do so early if they purchase the HD Digital or HD Digital 3D version of the film. They will be available through various outlets beginning on September 3.

Still, if you do go digital, you’ll be missing out on some pretty nice packaging, especially in the case of the the 3D Super Set. While many of us may not have 3D televisions, in the past there have been big sales over at outlets like Amazon around the time of release that have made the Blu-ray 3D copies available for roughly the same price as the Blu-ray copies, which may come with fewer extras and will come with slightly worse cover art (just like the Blu-ray art at the bottom of the page). If you still haven’t traded up for HD quality picture, that’s perfectly alright, as DVD copies will be available, as well.

The third installment in the Iron Man franchise did quite well at the box office, becoming the fifth highest grossing movie worldwide and earning well over a billion dollars at the box office. This has led to rumors—and jokes on Robert Downey Jr.’s end--that fans will see more of the franchise in the future. Until that news officially breaks, we’ll have to content ourselves with the Iron Man 3 set, which is shaping up to be a pretty fine addition to any collection. And I’m not just saying this because I’m jonesing for my own copy. With a few notable exceptions, Disney usually puts together some really nice sets.

A full list of bonus features isn’t yet available for viewing, but Walt Disney Home Entertainment has released a sampling of the fodder different sets will make available. If you are familiar with any of Marvel’s other releases, there will likely be an in-depth 3D set, as well as Blu-ray and DVD sets that may offer different extras. We do know that one bonus feature called “Deconstructing The Scene: Attack on Air Force One” will follow the stunt team that worked on the movie and will be available on all hard copies of the film, as well as through “select” digital retailers, which should be nice for fans who are over owning hard copies of films. You can check out the incomplete list of extras, below.

  • Deconstructing The Scene: Attack On Air Force One”
