Kate Bosworth Mostly Dead

Kate Bosworth is in negotiations to play someone who’s not quite dead. Production Weekly has her pegged as the lead in After.Life, a supernatural thriller about a young woman trapped between life and death fighting to avoid being buried alive by a funeral director.

The high-concept movie is written and directed by Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo, whose last movie (her first) Pate was about a family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Big ideas seem to be her thing, with Bosworth on board maybe this will be the one that gets recognition.

Kate isn’t the only significant film commodity eager to be mostly dead, Wojtowicz-Vosloo has also landed two-time Oscar nominated cinematographer John Mathieson. You might remember his work from such films as Gladiator, K-Pax, Matchstick men, and The Phantom of the Opera. Though her past work might have been small time, this one seems to be grabbing some high-profile attention.

On its own, I like the concept. Will Kate be a ghost? Depends on what trapped between life and death means. The ghost thing has been done to death, it might be interesting if it meant she’s trapped insider her body watching, but unable to move. While we’re at it, is being buried really her only concern? Usually before burial the body is subjected to all sorts of gutting and cutting, the type that might make living rather difficult. Buried alive seems to me to be the least of her worries.
