Some people try to find financing based on a pitch or a script. Sometimes it works, but the most tried and true method of opening wallets has always been big name actors. If you were an investor, which one of these two pitches would you go for? It's a dark comedy, coming to terms with your age story about two disenfranchised old men that dress up in animal costumes and mug people caught with more than ten items in the ten items or less aisle. Or it's a dark comedy, coming of age story with Max Von Sydow and Werner Herzog as two disenfranchised old men that dress up in animal costumes and mug people caught with more than ten items in the ten items or less aisle. Honestly, it's not even close. The second pitch has loads of credibility and even a somewhat developed sense of likely tone. Having big names aboard is always the right call, at least that's what Lajos Koltai and me think.

According to THR, the director has just signed Kim Cattrall, Jeremy Irons and Tom Sturridge for his latest, The Treehouse. Set in pre-WW1 Germany, the story follows a failed student, his father, a glamorous cousin and her mother. The budget has been set at ten million dollars, but with these names in place, getting the financing shouldn't be a problem.

The Treehouse's timetable is still a bit up in the air, but that's to be expected for a film currently in need of financial support. Once that safety net comes into place, more details should begin to emerge.
