Live-Action Jetsons Movie Still In The Works, New Writer Hired
You may remember a moment in time from last month when Kanye West announced via Twitter that he had gotten a job as a creative director on a live-action Jetsons movie. In addition to just being straight up weird, what made the story so strange is that nobody has talked about a Jetsons movie in years. Well, we're still not sure if Kanye West is actually involved, but apparently the project has resurfaced, according to Variety.
The trade reports that Warner Bros. has once again decided that a live-action Jetsons movie is an awesome idea and has hired writers to rework an existing script, namely Van Robichaux and Evan Susser. Neither scribe has a lot of experience, but they did co-write Chewie, a fake biopic about Peter Mayhew - the man who played Chewbacca - and his time on the set of Star Wars. That script was one named on 2011's Black List, a list of the most popular unproduced screenplays produced in a given year. Before Robichaux and Susser came on, the studio had hired Adam F. Goldberg (Fanboys, Aliens in the Attic) to pen the script. The movie will be based on the famous Hanna-Barbera cartoon about the Jetson family - George, Jane, Judy and Elroy - and their life in the distant future.
I wish this project wasn't going into development...right now. Instead, what they should do is wait until 2062 - the year the original show took place in - and celebrate the event with a live-action movie. Sadly, it would seem that dream will never be realized, so instead let's do this: who would you cast as each character in a Jetsons movie?
