The Lorax Video Features Taylor Swift Talking About Her Character Audrey

In order to make The Lorax into a story that fits the size of a feature film, it’s likely that additional characters and back-stories have been added to the classic Dr. Seuss tale. That would certainly explain the presence of Taylor Swift’s character Audrey, who’s featured in the trailers for the film and seems to be the motivation behind a boy’s search for trees and discovery of the Lorax.

While still at the top of her game in her music career, which most recently includes an outstanding performance at last Sunday night's Grammys Awards, Swift has also found time to lend her voice to the upcoming animated film The Lorax. She talks about her character Audrey in the video below (via iTunes (opens in new tab)), and you’ll also see some snippets of the movie.

So it seems Audrey’s “impossible dreams,” which include an interest in Truffula Trees, is what prompts the boy (Zac Efron) to venture away from their colorful little community and off on an adventure.

I have some reservations about the movie expanding on the original story, which worked so well in the simple way Seuss told it. The lack of detailed character development or elaborate set-up in the book allowed plenty of room for metaphor and the true message of the story. We’ll have to wait and see how the expanded story works when The Lorax releases in theaters March 2nd. In the meantime, Swift’s voice among the cast may bring an added layer of charm to the film. Also set to voice roles are Danny Devito, Ed Helms, Rob Riggle, and Betty White.
