Pacific Rim Viral Site Launches With A Special Alert

Over the past few years, Guillermo del Toro has proven a prolific producer, bringing forth twisted tales of terror like Splice, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and Mama, and fun family-friendly features like Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss In Boots and Rise of the Guardians. Still, the uniquely dark yet whimsical storytelling style he defined with Pan's Labyrinth has been sorely missed since he took a break from the director's chair following 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Thankfully, 2013 will at long last bring forth Pacific Rim the ambitious sci-fi epic that already has us dizzy in anticipation.

An original concept, Pacific Rim centers on a battle of a grand scale, where gargantuan carnage-craving monsters must be met by massive robots driven by human pilots. Last summer Eric was one of the lucky San Diego Comic Con attendees who got a coveted glimpse at the film's first trailer. Since then, we've been eagerly awaiting a trailer release, and to date have only gotten a poster. A pretty cool poster, but still—bring on the trailer!

While the wait for a look at the film continues, we've at least got a teaser thanks to the film's newly minted website Pan Pacific Defense. You can check the vid below, then scour the movie's official site for further details.

As you might have guessed, Kaiju is what the giant beasts that have emerged from Earth's oceans are called. As they invade the land and leave only destruction in their paths, its up to the brave two pilot teams of the massive machines called Jaegers to be mankind's salvation. Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Ron Pearlman, and Charlie Day co-star.

Pacific Rim will finally make its way to theaters on July 12th, 2013. In the meantime you can click here to learn everything else we know about it.
