Pearce And Duvall Hitting The Road?

Cormac McCarthy is on a roll right now, with No Country for Old Men marching victoriously through the awards season and many of its fans praising how much the movie sounds like McCarthy’s novel. Clearly the next McCarthy adaptation, The Road, is the hot train to be on, and now Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce may be climbing on board.

Bloody Disgusting reports what is very much a rumor that Pearce, Duvall and Kodi Smit-McPhee will be joining the cast. Smit-McPhee, born in 1996, would be a likely contender to play the son of the main character, already set to be played by Viggo Mortensen. Pearce and Duvall’s roles have not yet been speculated. Having not read the book I really have no idea who they might play; any ideas out there?

The Road is the story of a father and a son traveling across a wasted, post-apocalyptic American landscape. They have lost everything and are trying to get to the sea, though they have no idea if there is anything to save them there. Charlize Theron has also joined the cast, in a smaller role as Mortensen’s character’s wife, seen in flashbacks.
