Puss In Boots Spin-Off Gets A Writer

Even with a fourth Shrek movie in the works, the Dreamworks green ogre machine just won't quit. The long-rumored Shrek spinoff, following Antonio Banderas' Puss in Boots characters, has hired a screenwriter, meaning we'll be spending even more time in Shrek's slightly twisted fairy tale world.

Tom Wheeler, who only has a handful of TV writing credits to his name, will be in charge of the screenplay, according to THR. Chris Miller, a co-writer and co-director of the third Shrek, turned in an earlier draft, but apparently a newbie TV writer was better trusted with the story. Ouch. No word on when Puss's movie will be released, but with Shrek Goes Fourth coming out next summer, I'm sure they're counting on Puss to keep the franchise going after Mike Myers hangs up his Scottish brogue.
