Quaid and Foster Are Lost In Space

Many sci-fi thillers crumble because the crux of the story relies on some absurd technology -- forcing us to make a suspension-of-disbelief leap. But the upcoming Pandorum sounds like it avoids that by never showing us what the leap was. The story involves two crewmen who awaken on their spaceship, unaware of their mission, and discover an objective that could destroy mankind. That sounds like a job for Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster, who have just signed onto the project, according to Variety.

Given that the project is produced by Paul W.S. Anderson, Jeremy Bolt and Constantin's Robert Kulzer (the team that brought us Resident Evil: Extinction), chances are that Quaid and Foster won't be battling wits with HAL 9000 or the hallucinations of a Solaris. But the saving grace of this project is director Christian Alvart, who delivered the solid German Antibodies in 2005 (which just made its rounds in the U.S. last year). The guy knows how to craft a thriller, so maybe Anderson will stay out of his way long enough for him to get a decent shot at delivering a solid sci-fi thriller.
