Redford Directs Political Screed

In one of those twists that you just can’t see coming, long time liberal Robert Redford will direct a movie that is critical of the Bush administration. I almost fell over with shock when I learned, through the Hollywood Reporter, that the adaptation of former terrorism czar Richard Clarke’s 2004 memoir, Against All Enemies will serve as yet another opportunity for Redford to stick it to the man.

Against All Enemies is Clarke’s criticism of the handling of terrorism both prior to and after the events of 9/11. In it, many people are taken to task for screwing up, although Clarke doesn’t exactly rip himself, you know, the terrorism czar. Funny how that happens. No decisions on who will play Clarke, Bush, Condoleezza Rice or Donald Rumsfeld have been announced.

Paul Haggis was once attached to direct but he ended up making the “war is bad” movie, In the Valley of Elah. Now that Redford is on board, I think we can expect a very evenhanded look at all the pertinant issue. This is clearly not someone with a political agenda to push, he’s just a guy who wants to make a movie.
