Roth Readied For Hostel 2

When a movie makes back four times its budget in just its opening weekend, you’d better believe there’s going to be a sequel. Hostel hasn’t even been in theaters a week, but Lions Gate is already lining up the movie’s director for another round.

No, that doesn’t mean they’re negotiating with Quentin Tarantino for another. Though the advertising might lead you to believe Hostel is a Tarantino film, his name attachment is little more than a cheap marketing gimmick. Cabin Fever’s Eli Roth is the man behind the horror and Variety says he’s already in talks with LG and Screen Gems to do a Hostel 2.

Taking a cue from Lions Gate’s other big-money horror franchise Saw, their plan is to release the next edition a year after the first. So expect it around January next year.

The film’s producers are also in talks to return for Hostel 2, but who knows if that includes QT, who was really just an executive producer on the thing anyway. I wonder if they’ll also include Harry Knowles in their sequel negotiations, since he says that like just about everything successful that happens in Hollywood, the whole thing was his idea in the first place. Right Harry. Thanks for making Eli Roth look like an AICN puppet.
