Russian Cinema Exists

Here's something that may be a shocker for some of you: They don't just make unpopular salad dressings in Russia, they also make movies. I'm not talking about dubbing American or French movies into Russian and showing them in dilapidated communist era auditoriums once used for showing Stalin propaganda. No, I'm talking about actual Russian filmed, Russian written, Russian produced movies.

Ok, wanton ignorance aside I've actually been hearing a lot more buzz lately about Russian cinema, but personally have never seen much evidence of whether they've got anything worth checking out or not. With the release of movies like Ong-bak and Oldboy we've all been busy checking out Thai and Korean cinema. Jet Li and Jackie Chan have made it impossible to ignore the Chinese, and all you weirdo Anime nuts are determined to shove Japanese tentacle love down our throats. Even Bollywood has gotten it's day in the American sun. But no one pays any attention to their fellow occasional Asian sometime European brothers up in the frozen North. Well, here's your first taste.

The guys over at TwitchFilm.net have three really beautiful photos from the upcoming Russian fantasy epic Wolfound. Ok, the name almost sounds cliché for anything involving Russia, but the images really are beautiful. It's a fantastical revenge flick with a rather uninspiring plot description. Maybe it sounds better in Russian. Click over to Twitch to read the full synopsys and to see higher res versions of the three pics I've posted below:
