Schumacher Continues To Work

You know it’s a slow day when you’re writing about Joel Schumacher’s latest project (a remake, no less). Apparently the director isn’t content with driving franchises into the ground and churning out box office and critical flops (don’t) see Number 23. Maybe Hollywood is just like a real office, where the lazy people get promoted while the creative mover and shakers get trampled on. Either way, Schumacher is still in business and preparing to direct Breaking News for Paramount Vantage, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Breaking News is a remake of a Hong Kong action flick. It’s the typical story of the media showing the police in an unfavorable light after five bank robbers tear the cops a new one. In an effort to beat the media at their own game, a rogue cop makes a spectacle out of tracking down the aforementioned robbers. Sound stupid and confusing? Then it sounds like a perfect Schumacher project. Alex de Rakoff is writing the script. The original film was screened Out of Competition at the 2004 Festival de Cannes and was directed and produced by Johnnie To.

More underwhelming Breaking News as it comes in.
