In case you've been away from the Internet for the past couple of days, the Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice trailer hit the internet at the end of last week. Not to be outdone by the supposed leaking of their first big reveal for 2016's future blockbuster, Warner Bros gave out some free swag and a little more footage from Batman and Superman's big scuffle at tonight's IMAX screening event. The cherry on top of the evening's festivities wasn't the free advanced tickets attendees got to next year's clash of the comic titans, though. Instead, it’s our first great full look at the new Batsuit, which you can see below:
Zack Snyder Tweeted out this photo of the new Batsuit as a huge thank you to everyone who was able to snag tickets and trek out to their local participating IMAX theater to see the aforementioned footage. Getting the customary once over out of the way, we can begin to look at the details of the costume. More particularly, we can see that for starters, the Batsuit confirms the lengthy history of active crime fighting Batman has had before Batman v. Superman; Dawn of Justice. Creases of mending and/or age cover the suit, which fits the more grizzled veteran approach that the film is taking to Bruce Wayne's heroic alter ego.
Also, if you take a look at the eyebrows in this version of the Batsuit, you can see that the mask's pre-arched eyebrows look much more naturalistic than the Batsuits of years past. At the very least, those eyebrows are more natural than Christian Bale's were in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy.
Most importantly, this new and improved look at the latest Batsuit confirms that, yes, The Dark Knight Returns is the number one influence that Zack Snyder was going for when it came to designing his live-action version of the famous comic character. Not only does the cowl come with a built-in grimace, it also accommodates for an older, bigger Batman. Of course, if you actually were cut off from the internet for the last couple of days, you're going to want to see that suit in action. The Frank Miller variant of the Batsuit from The Dark Knight Returns looks like it makes for a Batman who's more ready to take a punch than deal it. Though that's not saying he's weakened in the suit's thicker proportions, as Batman is now allowed to take more hits while looking for a strategic weakness. It's a luxury that even Bruce Wayne knows he can't afford to lose against his Kryptonian rival, and if all goes according to plan, it looks like the fight between Batman and Superman will be more even than we thought.
