news:blended 7.26 - 8.1

Too lazy to read all the wonderful news our insightful crew scours the globe to bring you every day? Too outmoded to have an MP3 player for the podcast? Shame on you all! However, being the generous lot we are, welcome to news:blended, your weekly guide to the most interesting stories reported on Cinema Blend over the last seven days.

Comic Con 2008 was this last weekend and CinemaBlend was out in force. We attended all 8,345 panels (or maybe 40, it’s hard to keep track) and also managed to stand in line behind every one of the 125,000 other attendees at one time or another. This week’s news:blended is heavy on Comic Con stuff but I’ve also added other things going on in the movie world, so you have a well rounded diet. I’m considerate like that.

SATURDAY

We blow it, but get you the information (eventually.)

Raimi puts Evil Dead back in the wheelhouse.

Tron geeks got all geeky when they heard that some footage of Tron 2 was shown at Comic Con. I’m not a Tron geek so I was pretty ho-hum about the whole thing until I found out it was shown at a panel that I was supposed to be at. Uh oh. Fortunately, Sam Raimi said he was going to maybe do Evil Dead 4 and all the geek attention turned towards that and off of my screw-up.

SUNDAY

We got your photos of the killing machine right here.

Patty and Selma’s dream man speaks.

We know that everyone loves pictures of a pretend robot holding a big machine gun. That’s why we took tons of the Terminator T-600 that was brought to Comic Con and put together a little photo gallery for you. The photos are pretty cool if you have a thing for shiny metal death merchants. And who doesn’t? Some people also have a thing for MacGyver. We went right to the horse’s mouth for info on a possible movie of the famous television…uh….what was his job anyway? Richard Dean Anderson said he had heard maybe something was happening but that he really didn’t know much for sure. Wow, Scoop!

MONDAY

It wasn’t all fun and games in San Diego

Your dreams will be pleasant, at least for now.

You got to take the good with the bad at Comic Con. The good was stuff like the Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog and BSG panels and the bad was The Spirit panel. Apparently Frank Miller can be described as “cranky” and “unlikeable.” At least, that’s how we described him. We also described the double confirmation that there isn’t going to be a new Nightmare on Elm Street anytime soon. That’s good news for guys like me who are tired of hearing about remakes, reboots, and team ups in the horror world. Anyone want to try something, you know, creative?

TUESDAY

CinemaBlend’s comments section gets right to the point on Lucas.

Mack didn’t like Step-Brothers quite so much.

We had more Comic Con stuff on Tuesday, but there was also tons of other movie news. One scary story was George Lucas talking Indy 5 and how he has “ideas.” Good god, we do not need any of that. I saw what his ideas have looked like recently and they are not great. Also not great, per Mack, is Step-Brothers. When Mack doesn’t like something, he rants. He rants and raves and froths at the mouth. I’m not sure what his deal is this time exactly, but it has something to do with Will Farrell and a boy on a shed.

WEDNESDAY

Josh’s low expectations exceeded by McG of all people.

Cool stuff that you can’t take home with you.

Some people are concerned that Mc Charlie’s Angels G is directing Terminator Salvation. After seeing him at the Comic Con panel, Josh Tyler isn’t concerned…anymore. McG did a good job of removing Josh’s fears that this movie about killer robots of the future would suck eggs. You know, like McG’s other movies. After seeing panel, Josh and our intrepid photographer Leanne went out on the convention floor and took pictures of….well….everything. Now you get to see all the cool stuff without rubbing shoulders with nerds in costumes, like I did.

THURSDAY

Angelina Jolie wants to be Catwoman.

Venom without Topher is like cheese without motor oil.

It must be Comic Con but we got our super-hero groove on Thursday. Actually it was more of a super-villain groove. There were rumors Angelina Jolie was trying to get the role of Catwoman in the next Batman movie. It doesn’t seem likely since Catwoman probably won’t even be in the next movie. Someone thinks Jolie won’t do it because she just had twins. Ha ha. That’s a good one. Another good one is that Topher Grace won’t be asked to play Venom in a movie about Venom called Venom. He may not want to play Venom in the Venom movie called Venom. If so, they need a new Venom.

FRIDAY

Tron 2 gets Lost.

See us bash movies with our voices, not just our typing skills.

Although we (or I) screwed up and missed the Tron 2 footage at Comic Con, we did get some info later in the week about what’s up with the movie. Or, we got vague unsubstantiated rumors from a fairly unreliable source. In other words, Internet journalism at its finest. Another thing we can do here on the Internet, is do video reviews of movies. This gives us a chance to bash (or praise) the same movie twice, sometimes thrice.

That’s all for another week of news blending. It’s like what you get at Jamba Juice, but cheaper and not quite as healthy. If you liked it or didn’t, leave some feedback.
