The Nutcracker Movie Has Found Its First Star

Although we currently find ourselves in the midst of the warmer summer months, that doesn't mean we cannot start thinking about the holiday season. If anything, popping in a beloved Christmas special will help cool us down during these hotter than average days. Everyone has his or her favorite Christmas special, and while we've known for sometime that the eternal classic The Nutcracker would soon receive a Disney revival, we haven't heard much about it recently -- until now. The upcoming Nutcracker reboot has finally cast its first star, and she's perfect for the project.

Earlier today American ballerina Misty Copeland took to Instagram to share the news that she has joined the cast of Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. She commemorated the occasion by sharing an image of her very own copy of E.T.A Hoffman's script. Check out the image below to see for yourself.

While this particular revelation doesn't shed much insight into the exact nature of Misty Copeland's role, we can likely assume that it will involve a great deal of physicality and technique. The 33-year-old American ballerina has become a sensation over the last few years for her work at The American Ballet Theatre, as well as the recent Broadway revival of On The Town.

She's perhaps become most notable for her work as a trailblazer for African-American women, as she became the first ever African-American female to take on the role of principle dancer in the American Ballet Theater back in 2015. Her story has become so inspirational for so many that New Line Cinema has already begun developing a biopic based upon her life titled Life In Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina, with screenwriter Gregory Howard slated to turn her memoir into the film's screenplay.

Although Misty Copeland hasn't done much straightforward acting during her career, it looks as though this part will play to her particular strengths. Disney's new version of The Nutcracker will only feature one prominent dance scene, and it appears that she will headline the sequence.

The upcoming film adaptation of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is based upon the classic The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It centers upon the story of a girl who is tasked with the job of taking care of a living Nutcracker and facing off against an evil Mouse King. It's a Christmas classic, and we have nothing but faith in Misty Copeland's ability to shoulder the weight of the film's dance sequence.

We here at Cinema Blend will keep you up to date with any and all pertinent details related to Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms as more information becomes available to us.
