This Harry Potter Spells Compilation Will Fit All Your Magic Needs
Not to state the obvious, but there's something truly magical about the Harry Potter universe. J.K. Rowling did something incredible with the creation of this series: she developed a universe that fans actually want to become part of, rather than simply follow. One major part of building the wizard world comes in the creation of spells -- the basic tools and weapons of any wizard. Have you ever wondered how many spells were used during the course of the Harry Potter films? Wonder no longer, as the video below will chronicle each and every one - in alphabetical order.
If you've ever pondered exactly how intense Harry Potter fans can get about their particular universe, then this video should pretty much help you understand. The above video chronicles every single spell cast throughout the run of the Harry Potter films, and assembles them in alphabetical order. Everything from minor, comic relief spells from the earlier movies, to the now infamous "Expecto Patronum" scene from the climax of The Prisoner of Azkaban, has been logged and assembled in the right place. In total, the whole video runs through spells for just about every letter of the alphabet -- from "Accio" at the very top to "Wingardium Leviosa" at the bottom.
Everyone has his or her own favorite spell from the Harry Potter universe. If I had to choose, it would be "Expelliarmus", because I can never get enough of Snape uttering those legendary words in his iconic voice. Rest in peace, Alan Rickman. You will always be a beloved thespian in our eyes.
Perhaps the most impressive thing about this video is the way in which it makes us understand how much thorough and meticulous construction went into the Harry Potter universe. The spells used in these movies and books have very specific meanings, and astute fans can begin to understand them if they pay close enough attention. It's maybe not quite as intense as Star Trek fans that learn Klingon as a second language, or people who dedicate their lives to understanding the biologic landscape of the Avatar planet, Pandora, but it's pretty damn close.
As the cinematic wizard world continues to grow, we have a distinct feeling that more spells will soon join this list. With the adventures of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) taking the wizard action across the pond to the United States later this year in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, we will get a chance to see what spells the American wizards seem partial to.
If you consider yourself a Harry Potter fan in any capacity, then definitely check out the above video. We will bring you more information concerning Fantastic Beasts as more details become available; the American wizard adventure will hit theaters this fall on November 18th.
