Megatron never really went away in the Transformers film series, his mind was transplanted into the robot Galvatron in the last film, Transformers: Age of Extinction. While details are predictably unclear, we were already told that Megatron will be back in Transformers: The Last Knight. Now, we have our first good look at what the new version of the character will look like. It's a significantly different look than the original Megatron from the first few films. We honestly have to wonder what makes this new character Megatron, and not a new character. If putting Megatron's mind into Galvatron, made him Galvatron, then wouldn't putting his mind into this new robot make him somebody else? It's possible we're overthinking Transformers just a bit.

So what can we expect from this new Megatron? Well, the first thing we expect is sword fights. We've seen Optimus Prime with a sword in hand in some of the new promotional material, and has Megatron is sporting both some kind of long-handled axe, and a shield, we're already getting prepped for some close quarters giant robot combat. Megatron is just one of several characters who will be making their return to the franchise. Both Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson will be reprising their roles from the first Transformers trilogy. When human lead Shiah Labeouf left after the third film, we saw a complete shift in the human characters for the next film. While that made some sense, as the movies were looking to embark on a new trilogy, it now looks like Transformers: The Last Knight is looking to remind fans more of the older films than to move forward into something new.

There's something else about this new look for Megatron that we feel like they're trying to remind us of. We can't quite put our finger on it, oh wait, that's right...

Ultron

While Megatron isn't a carbon copy, that head structure really reminds of Ultron. Are we the only ones? What do you think of the new Megatron? Are you excited to have the character back for the new Transformers film? Let us know in the comments.
