Ben Affleck And Casey Affleck May Join Forces To Star In And Save A Crime Drama

Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck

Triple Frontier has been in development for years, and each time it has looked like the crime drama is about to move forward, something impedes its progress. The most recent setback came last month, when it was reported that not only were Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum dropping out of the film, but that Paramount was also letting go of it mere weeks before it was set to go into production. However, Triple Frontier isn't quite dead yet, because there's word that Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck are being eyed as the new leads.

While securing the Affleck brothers isn't quite a done deal yet, they are the top picks to snag the roles once held by Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum. Deadline is also reporting that Netflix is among the many places where Triple Frontier is looking for a new home. The streaming service has been a major player in original TV programming since the beginning of the decade, but they started churning out original movies in 2015, starting with Beasts of No Nation. Once the separation from Paramount has been finalized, production is aiming to begin later this year. Triple Frontier is a thriller that takes place on the notorious border zone with Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

Ben Affleck and Casey Affleck certainly have plenty of experience working together, not only with acting side-by side in movies like Good Will Hunting, but also with Ben directing Casey in 2007's Gone Baby Gone. That said, the two of them have reasonably branched off in separate career paths, with Ben's recent appearances including The Accountant, Live by Night and being Batman in the DCEU, while Casey has appeared in Interstellar, Triple 9 and Manchester by the Sea. Triple Frontier would be a good opportunity to have the brothers on equal footing as co-leads.

For a long time, Detroit's Kathryn Bigelow was supposed to direct Triple Frontier, but now A Most Violent Year's J.C. Chandor is the one attached to helm. Mark Boal of The Hurt Locker fame wrote the script, and Charles Roven is producing. Currently the only officially attached actor is Mahershala Ali, who is fresh off winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in Moonlight and is also set to appear in Alita: Battle Angel. Other actors who have been attached to Triple Frontier over the years have included Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks and Will Smith.

Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on how Triple Frontier is coming along, with or without the Affleck brothers. While we'll also have to wait to find out whether or not it will end up on Netflix, you can check out our 2017 premiere schedule to find out when the streaming service's other original movies and TV shows are arriving.
