Super Troopers 2 Is Finally Finished, Here's What's Happening

Super Troopers

Back in 2001, the comedy troupe Broken Lizard gave the world Super Troopers, the outlandish comedy about Vermont state patrol officers that has become their biggest hit and a cult classic. Now like a lot of movies that were released long ago, Super Troopers is getting a sequel years later, which became possible when Broken Lizard raised over $4 million through crowdfunding. Now the creative team behind Super Troopers 2 has finished the final step of post-production, meaning that the only thing left is for a release date to be assigned.

Broken Lizard recently updated Super Troopers fans on the progress of the sequel on its website, noting that they'd completed the sound mix and color correction steps of the project. While Super Troopers 2 had previously been test-screened, that version was an "unfinished product," but it was nonetheless important to show the movie to select people to see the sequel to find out what worked about it and what didn't. This concludes eight months of post-production work on Super Troopers 2, and with everything now done on its end, Broken Lizard is now waiting to hear from Fox Searchlight about when the movie will be released. Once that date is set in stone, that's when Super Troopers 2's marketing will kick off. Posters, trailers, etc.

A Super Troopers sequel has been in the works for more than a decade, but the project in its current iteration didn't get off the ground until early 2015, when Broken Lizard received permission from Fox Searchlight to shoot the movie. However, because the studio wouldn't cover the production expenses, Broken Lizard set set up an Indiegogo campaign and teamed up with Fandango to provide incentives for the supporters. More than two years later, their work is finally finished, which should bring a lot of joy to the fans of the original Super Troopers, especially those who pitched in money to make the sequel happen.

Along with the men of Broken Lizard (Jay Chandrasekhar, Paul Soter, Steve Lemme, Erik Stolhanske and Kevin Heffernan) reprising their respective roles as the main law enforcement officers, Super Troopers 2 will bring back Brian Cox, Marisa Coughlan and Lynda Carter. The sequel's new cast members include Rob Lowe, Emmanuel Chriqui, Tyler Labine, Will Sasso and Hayes MacArthur.

While we wait for that first Super Troopers 2 trailer to be released online, you can watch the trailer that Broken Lizard put together below back when the sequel's crowdfunding began.
