The Classic Marvel Character Stan Lee Wants To See More Of In The MCU

Stan Lee has to be impressed by the sheer scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yes, he has seen several of his creations come to life on the big screen over the past few decades, be it Spider-Man in the Sam Raimi films, The Hulk in various interpretations, or the adaptations of each character in the MCU. But to see characters like Black Panther and Doctor Strange sharing screen time with Thor and Iron Man... Stan Lee couldn't have predicted that. It's truly amazing. And yet, there's still one character that Stan hopes gets more screen time in an upcoming Marvel movie, and that's The Silver Surfer. Said Stan Lee:

He's the one I want to see more. He's the most philosophical of all the characters I've ever worked on. And I have an idea for my cameo in that one!

Leave it to Stan Lee to lobby for his own cameo, if a Silver Surfer movie ever gets off the ground! Stan "The Man" was speaking with SyFy.com ahead of a Beverly Hills tribute in his honor, Extraordinary: Stan Lee. And in doing so, he opened up about his illustrious career, his contributions to the MCU (he still loves that hilarious Avengers: Age of Ultron cameo that he filmed), and the fact that he hopes the Silver Surfer gets another crack at silver-screen success.

The Silver Surfer

The Silver Surfer has been around since the earliest days of Marvel Comics. Introduced in 1966, the Surfer was a product of creator Jack Kirby, and graced the pages of The Fantastic Four comics first... and often. The Surfer was a herald of the mighty Galactus, and usually traveled to distant planets to find places where Galactus could feed. His search brings him to Earth, where the Fantastic Four must convince him to help STOP Galactus from destroying our world.

That story basically played out in the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. But it's likely not what anyone hoped they'd get from a Silver Surfer movie, as it was small-scale and family-friendly.

Stan Lee might not remember, but Silver Surfer -- and the Fantastic Four -- belong to Fox. And even though Marvel found a way to cooperate with Sony, so that Spider-Man can be part of the MCU, Fox and Marvel have not played nicely as of late. The X-Men, the Fantastic Four and more are on the outside of the MCU looking in. However, the MCU is said to be heading in a more cosmic direction once it wraps with Avengers 4, so if ever there was a time to bring the Surfer into the fold, now would be it.
