See The First Look At Thor: Ragnarok's Fiery Dragon

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is on a bit of a hot streak lately. Phase Three's films have been wildly successful, with the last few movies making buckets of money while also quickly becoming critically acclaimed. The next installment in the MCU is Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok, which seems like a game changer for the franchise. The highly anticipated threequel will team up Thor, The Hulk, Loki, and Valkyrie in an epic battle to escape Sakaar and save Asgard from destruction. The motley crew will have to fight a number of epic battles, and now it looks like the battle with the fire demon Surtur will include the villain's fire dragon. We just got the first look at said dragon, check it out.

Where's Danny Rand when you need him? Looks like Hulk and Thor are going to be facing off against a fire dragon, and things are definitely going to heat up.

This image is a teaser from Disneyland's Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission After Dark attraction. While the traditional Guardians attraction is already open for business in the California theme park, they'll be changing it up a bit for Halloween season. And one of the edits includes Surtur's fire dragon, just in time to promote Thor: Ragnarok's run in the theater. Good move, Disney.

Smart marketing aside, Surtur's dragon looks absolutely badass in this new image. While we got a glimpse of the fire demon in Thor: Ragnarok's trailer, this is the first we've seen of his fire breathing pet. And with giant horns and a body seemingly made of fire, this things look scary enough to make even Daenerys Targaryen quake in her boots.

It's currently unclear exactly how Surtur will factor into the overall narrative of Thor: Ragnarok, but something tells me that the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) will be responsible. He's the one who will pit Hulk and Thor against each other in Sakaar's colosseum, although from the trailers it seems that epic battle looks like it's going to have a fair amount of comedic moments. Grandmaster will no doubt want to continue using the Avengers in epic battles, which may explain how the fire demon shows up. Perhaps the battle against Sutur is one of the Hulk's final tests before he and Thor are allowed to depart the desolate planet and return to Asgard to save the day.

Regardless, Surtur and his dragon's inclusion prove just how unique Ragnarok's action sequences will be to the rest of his solo movies, as well as the overall MCU. The scale of the battles feel much larger than the majority of the shared universe's typical fights, aside from perhaps the battle for New York in Avengers and Doctor Strange's confrontation with Dormammu. Thor and Hulk are the two most powerful members of The Avengers, so the action can be amped up in their buddy movie. And with Thanos' arrival coming shortly, this will no doubt we the appetites of the fandom who are awaiting Avengers: Infinity War.

Thor: Ragnarok will arrive in theaters on November 3rd, 2017. In the meantime, check out our 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
