What To Expect From Dumbledore In Fantastic Beasts 2

Dumbledore

Warner Bros. recently unveiled the first look at Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second entry in their Harry Potter prequel series. The sequel will continue the story of characters like Newt Scamander and Tina Goldstein, while also introducing some new ones. Fans will also see a familiar-ish face: Albus Dumbledore. The future Headmaster of Hogwarts will be played by Jude Law, who will show a different side of the character that we've not seen in the main series. People will somewhat see the origin of Dumbledore and how he was different as a younger man.

He's got authority, he's got a twinkle in his eye, he's sometimes a bit elliptical. So you have that but also have this youthful energy and jubilance. So he brings that twinkle, mischief, authority, and power, but at the same time brings far more youthful energy to the film. You understand why he would be your favorite teacher and be someone you believe is an extraordinary wizard.

Albus Dumbledore is 150 years old in the main Harry Potter series, but Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (really rolls off the tongue) is set somewhere between 1926 and 1945. That fans will meet Dumbledore as a young-ish man, revealing a whole new dimension of the classic character. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, producer David Heyman revealed some tidbits about what to expect from Dumbledore. Played by Jude Law in the sequel, Dumbledore will have a bit more energy to him, due to not being quite as old. This Dumbledore is the kind of guy who would be your favorite teacher, possessing many of the qualities fans are used to seeing, but with a bit more pep in the step.

Harry Potter fans are likely excited to see Dumbledore in the new Fantastic Beasts movie. While the first movie is fine, it didn't exactly wow people like it probably wanted. It was basically two different movies -- the beasts storyline and the Grindelwald conflict -- competing against each other, so the sequel looks like its fully committing to one storyline. The inclusion of Dumbledore should hopefully go a long way in winning over fans by giving them a familiar character to attach to.

Dumbledore has a big part to play in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Taking place sometime after the first movie, it will pick up with Newt Scamander having become a household name in the wizard community, thanks to the release of his popular book. He is soon recruited by his old professor, Albus Dumbledore, to help him stop the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald from inciting a war. As fans may know, Dumbledore has close ties to Grindelwald, which could give further insight into the wizard's backstory.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 16, 2018. To learn more about the sequel, check out our comprehensive guide!
