Joe Manganiello Shared The Best Look At Deathstroke In The DCEU
Spoilers ahead for Justice League.
Zack Snyder's Justice League has been in theaters for a week, and fans are still reeling from all the superhero action. We've also began to discuss and dissect every frame of the blockbuster, despite the mixed critical reception. Say what you want about Joss Whedon's cut of the film, but Justice League established a ton of groundwork for the future of the DC Extended Universe, introducing characters and settings that will be expanded in upcoming installments. The film's post-credits scene introduced Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke for the first time, and now we have a high res photo of him in costume, looking like a badass. Check it out.
If that's not enough reason to keep you excited about the DCEU, I'm not sure what is. Joe Manganiello's Instagram post reveals a still from his brief scene in Justice League, looking like he's ripped straight from the comics in the villain's awesome gear.
Deathstroke's DCEU debut was a major surprise of Justice League, as neither he or Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor appeared in the film itself. But after Luthor escaped Arkham and was lounging on his stunning yacht, he invites Slade Wilson on to formulate their own plan. Since the heroes have formed a League to save the Earth, then the villains should follow suit. Watch out Rockford Peaches, because they need a league of their own.
Joe Manganiello's inclusion in the DC Extended Universe came months ago, after rumors swirled that he'd be playing the deadly assassin Deathstroke. It seemed he was going to make his debut in Matt Reeves' Batman solo film, although we haven't gotten any news about that film. And with Ben Affleck already planning his exit from the shared universe, it's unclear if the movie will even happen. As such, the folks at DC have rearranged a few things to Manganiello's Deathstroke could starting kicking ass without worrying about how Batfleck feels about the role on any given day.
The post credits scene with Deathstroke and Lex Luthor seems to heavily hint at the contents of a second Justice League film. But with DC's schedule a mystery for the most part, it's unclear when exactly that film could become reality. Will they take the time to introduce new villains in solo films before uniting them? With Aquaman and the Wonder Woman sequel making up the next two movies, there certainly seems like an opportunity to introduce villains like Black Manta and Cheetah before they join up with the Injustice League.
Then again, The DC Extended Universe doesn't really take its time by slowly introducing characters like the MCU. Instead, it's had a habit of throwing a full ensemble of comic book icons into one film, like Suicide Squad and Justice League. But one thing is clear: Joe Manganiello looks perfect as Deathstroke.
