No Big Deal, Just Margot Robbie Hanging Out With Mick Dundee

Margot Robbie is one of the most talented young actresses working today, recently scoring an Oscar nomination for best actress for her work in I, Tonya. She also happens to be Australian, and as such it was almost mandatory that she be involved in the upcoming Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home. The upcoming commercial/fake film is actually an elaborate advertising campaign to promote Australian tourism set to air during the Super Bowl and it appears that Margot Robbie might be a part of it. The actress was hanging out with the legendary bushman himself, Mick Dundee actor Paul Hogan. Take a look.

While we haven't seen Margot Robbie in any of the early looks at Dundee, this Instagram post seems as good a confirmation as any that the actress will be playing a part in the faux-sequel. Margot Robbie looks positively giddy in this picture to be working with the Aussie legend. The iconic actor and Margot Robbie standing together in front of an Aussie flag is about as Australian as you can get without any sort of animal that can kill you in the picture. The actress' post also indicates that she could be playing the daughter of Donk in Dundee. Donk appeared in all of the previous Crocodile Dundee films and was portrayed by actor Steve Rackman. So this seems to be following the next generation of the Aussie saga.

For what is ultimately an elaborate tourism commercial, this Dundee movie has rounded up a pretty stellar cast. In addition to Margot Robbie (who seems like she will be a part of it), other Australian greats, Hugh Jackman and Marvel star Chris Hemsworth are also involved. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some other great cameos from Australian actors (fingers crossed for Russell Crowe) being kept under wraps too. They will join Danny McBride, who will be playing the son of Dundee in the commercial. Commercial? Reboot? Sequel? I don't know if we currently have the correct terminology to accurately convey what this is and may not be able to do so until after we have seen the final product. I'm also curious if this will be one 30-second spot or several to form a complete narrative and showcase all these great Australian talents. Plus there is the ever-pressing question of does this count as canon? The Crocodile Dundee purists out there need to know.

In this age of reboots of nostalgic properties, no one would be surprised if Crocodile Dundee was returning after 17 years away for new adventures following the son of the legendary bushman. And who wouldn't want to see a Crocodile Dundee reboot with this hilarious and talented cast? If nothing else, this is a super clever and unique advertising campaign and it is shaping up to be one of the highlights to look forward to during the commercial breaks of the upcoming Super Bowl. Super Bowl LII airs this Sunday.
