New Avengers: Infinity War Video Shows Groot Being Sassy To The Guardians Of The Galaxy

The Groot we met in Guardians of the Galaxy is no more, but in his place rose a new Groot who's been growing up with the Guardians of the Galaxy. During Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's main story, we watched Baby Groot run around and be all kinds of adorable, but one of the sequel's mid-credits scenes jumped forward a few years and showed an adolescent Groot giving Peter Quill attitude over not cleaning his room. This is the size Groot will be during Avengers: Infinity War, and even with all the craziness going down in the movie, the tree creature has no problem delivering the sass to his teammates/parents, as you'll see in the new preview.

Much like how Han Solo can understand what Chewbacca is inferring through his growls in the Star Wars universe, all of the Guardians of the Galaxy now understand what Groot is saying when he utters his trademark catchphrase, "I am Groot." Case in point, towards the end of this Avengers: Infinity War TV spot, titled "All of Them," the Guardians are flying through space, but Groot is busy playing with what I'm assuming is a Space Game Boy. Peter promptly tells him to put it away, but Groot sassily responds, "I am Groot." We the audience don't know what Groot said, but evidently it was laced with obscenity judging by the looks on Peter and Drax's faces, as well as Rocket exclaiming, "Language!" On the one hand, Groot shouldn't be so disrespectful, but on the other hand, it's funny to see him act like a stereotypical teenager. Still, our favorite walking and talking tree will need to get his act together once he and his allies jump into danger.

The rest of this Avengers: Infinity War TV spot hits many of the same beats as the most recent trailer, but there are a sprinkling of other new moments, like King T'Challa delivering an inspiring statement and Scarlet Witch gazing intently while in Wakanda. As far as the Guardians of the Galaxy are concerned, they will cross paths with Thor seemingly after the God of Thunder has been attacked by Thanos aboard his ship. Eventually the team will also cross paths with Iron Man and Spider-Man, and towards the end of the movie, they'll make their way to Wakanda and help the other MCU heroes fight the Mad Titan's forces. In terms of what to expect specifically for Groot, Terry Notary, the actor who portrays Groot on set, previously said that Infinity War will see the character looking for a mentor to look up to and model himself after.

Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on May 4, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates about the movie in the remains weeks leading up to its release. You can also browse through our Marvel movies guide to learn what other MCU cinematic projects are on the horizon.
