Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Dolittle Movie Adds John Cena And More

John Cena

While everybody is getting ready to see Robert Downey Jr. return as Iron Man, the actor does actually have other projects in the works and his Doctor Dolittle movie just made a massive announcement regarding who will be joining him in the upcoming film. Doctor Dolittle talks to the animals, and now we know exactly who will be talking back. While some voice actors like Emma Thompson and Selena Gomez had previously been announced. They will be joined by a host of other actors, including John Cena.

The tweet sent out by Robert Downey Jr. that introduces the cast list John Cena simply as a polar bear named Yoshi. It makes sense to make a guy who looks like Cena voice something so big. Having previously voiced a bull in the animated movie Ferdinand, he should feel right at home. However, Cena is only one of many new additions to the case of The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle.

Kumail Nanjiani and Octavia Spencer

Kumail Nanjiani will play the role of Plimpton the ostrich while Octavia Spencer will voice Dab-Dab, a duck. I can already envision Plimpton the ostrich wearing a top hat and monocle, which while that may not actually happen, it feels like the character they're going for. While that's not the sort of character Kumail Nanjiani is most known for, it's certainly a voice he can pull off. Octavia Spencer feels like a pretty big voice for a small creature, but maybe that's part of the joke.

Rami Malek Craig Robinson

Mr. Robot star Rami Malek will voice Chee-Chee the gorilla. Malek has been making a serious move from television to the big screen. He'll be seen this year playing the lead in the biopic of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Craig Robinson will be the second biggest guy in the movie (physically, behind Cena) playing the smallest role, a mouse that goes by Fleming.

Marion Cotillard Frances de la Tour

Marion Cotillard, recently of the Assassin's Creed movie, will join The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle as a fox named Tutu. Frances de la Tour, who can be seen in the Harry Potter series as well as on television in Outlander has what may be the most interesting role among the animals. The name of the character is Ginko-Who-Soars. It's not clear if this is a name or a species or both. It could be a bird of some kind or perhaps a fantasy creature created for the film?

Carmen Ejomgo

Finally, we have Carmen Ejongo, who will be seen in the upcoming third season of HBO's True Detective as well as the Fantastic Beasts sequel, who will voice a lioness named Regine.

The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle is set for an April 2019 release. With a cast this strong, it certainly has potential to be a very strong film.
