Disney animation fans got a little excited when it was revealed that Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 would include a massive Disney crossover. Now, we have our first public look at the infamous moment. Ralph 2 will send our title character and his friend Vanellope inside the internet where they will find, well, everything, and that includes Star Wars, Marvel superheroes, and all of Disney's famous princesses. As in previous trailers, we see Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz surrounded by the mass of information that is the internet in a physical form. The pair goes to a search bar, where a character, voiced by Alan Tudyk, tries to guess what it is they're looking for, just as every autofill search bar does today. Vanellope's desire to go someplace intense and nuts takes her to one of Disney's actual websites, Oh My Disney, where everything Disney apparently lives. This leads to the scene we'd heard about last year where Vanellope gets to interact with every Disney Princess from Snow White to Moana.
The sequence is utterly hilarious. First Vanellope's ends up in the room with princesses because she's running from Stormtroopers. Then, the princesses are so startled by Vanellope's initial appearance that they all grab weapons, including Cinderella shattering a glass slipper and threatening to use it like a broken beer bottle. Disney then gets to have some fun with itself by making jokes about the various similarities between so many of the princess characters, including the fact that so many required rescuing from men. Of course, the way Rapunzel's question is phrased, it implies that none of them necessarily lived happily ever after once the credits rolled, they still had problems to deal with.
The fact that the Disney princesses would appear in Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 was revealed last year at the D23 Expo but only those in attendance actually got to see any of the footage showing the Infinity War level crossover. Now, the rest of us get a glimpse at what's to come. If you're a serious fan of Disney animation, this is clearly a big deal. It's so big, however, that it's somewhat disappointing this moment has been revealed before release. This is the sort of scene that would have taken a movie audience by storm if it hadn't been revealed. We can only hope that there's a lot more of this scene we're not seeing that will still make it fresh and exciting.
Perhaps there will be many more animated cameos as part of this sequence. We see Iron Man, Eeyore, and Stormtroopers in the scene as well, and we have references to Pixar and the Muppets, so perhaps we'll meet characters from those franchises as well. A close look at one shot also shows us the Up house, R2-D2, and Dumbo.
With the sheer volume of properties Disney has access to, there could be countless additional characters showing up, either as voiced roles that Ralph and Vanellope will meet, or simply walking around in the background. We'll keep our eyes open for them all when Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 arrives in November.
