Wild Avengers Theory Claims Captain America Actually Died
Despite being released back in April, cinephiles and comic book fans alike haven't stopped dissecting every single frame of Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War. A decade in the making, most of the MCU's biggest characters united in the epic battle against Josh Brolin's Thanos, ultimately coming up short when the Mad Titan collected the Infinity Stones and destroyed half the galaxy with the snap of a finger. The good guys nearly bested Thanos quite a few times, including twice in the massive Battle of Wakanda. When he finally arrived, Thanos knocked each of the Avengers aside including Captain America, who got a direct punch to the head. It was a big hit, even for the super soldier, and a new fan theory indicated he might have actually died from the blow. At least, briefly.
This new theory popped up over on Reddit, where user commander_wong made the point that Thanos' brutal punch to Captain America's head would have likely killed the Avenger. But that doesn't mean there was a continuity error. In fact, the theory indicates that Cap was actually revived when Thanos reversed time to bring Vision back from the dead, and procure the Mind Stone from his head. So while Thanos' use of the Time Stone may have helped him undo Vision's sacrifice, it may have also saved Steve Rogers in the process.
While this latest fan theory is far from official canon, it makes Thanos' destructive rampage through Wakanda all the more powerful. The image of Steve Rogers going toe to toe with Thanos was in every trailer, and it was an awesome moment that showed Cap's true determination and grit in the face of insurmountable odds. But then the big purple guy gives him a powerful punch to the head, and Cap was put down. Thanos also trapped Black Widow under some rocks, and melted Bruce Banner into a mountain.
But when Thanos eventually reverses time and procures the time stone, these characters aren't in the same positions-- and Steve Rogers is possible brought back from the dead... again. The group of characters are next seen in the wake of Thanos' finger snap of death, free of their former constraints, but also missing half the galaxy and a ton of their closest allies.
It should be interesting to see how the remaining heroes manage to change Thanos' finger snap, and presumably save their allies in the process. All of the OG members of the team were spared, alongside MCU favorites like Nebula, War Machine, Okoye, and Rocket. They'll need all the help they can get to hopefully bring back the fallen characters, and will have to lean on newcomer Captain Marvel as well as Paul Rudd's Ant-Man.
All will be revealed when the untitled Avengers 4 movie arrives on May 3rd, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
