Mark Hamill Reveals Recurring Star Wars Fight He Had With Carrie Fisher

Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Star Wars Lucasfilm

It is truly a crime that we lost Carrie Fisher so soon, and certainly not just because she didn't get to film new footage for Star Wars: Episode IX. Her Princess Leia/General Organa will still be featured in the 2019 movie, and she's always with Star Wars fans throughout the year. Mark Hamill has played Leia's on-screen twin Luke Skywalker since before they knew the characters were siblings. He has been keeping Fisher alive for fans with fun little stories about the beloved actress, including this anecdote revealing a silly recurring fight they had over Luke and Leia's royal status:

Can't you just picture them bickering about that on set?

Fans picked up the royal debate in the replies. One fan argued that Luke was a prince, since Leia is royalty through their biological mother, Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman). However, another pointed out that Padmé was elected as queen, and her royal status wasn't an inheritable title passed down to her kids. Another fan continued on that theme, saying it's true that queens were elected in Naboo. Padmé took on the role of senator at the request of the new queen. Leia's title of princess was through her adoptive mother, Queen Breha Organa of Alderaan, wife of Senator Bail. Hence, Luke is not royal.

So that's your Star Wars nerd history for the day. Feel free to continue the debate if you have more to add on the subject.

Mark Hamill loves to share little details like that. Carrie Fisher wrote a book revealing some stuff, including an affair with Harrison Ford, who played her on-screen love Han Solo. But Hamill revealed he and Fisher also made out like teens at one point, since they shared an attraction.

It's obvious in Star Wars that Luke was into Leia, but then when we found out that they were siblings, Leia said somehow she always knew that. She felt it.

Carrie Fisher's death on December 27, 2016 at age 60 was felt around the world. We know that the 2019 Star Wars: Episode IX will feature unused footage from director J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens to keep Leia in the story. Luke will also return, despite how things played out in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Here's what else we know about Episode 9 so far.

Star Wars: Episode IX has yet to reveal its true title, or release a trailer. But it will be heading to theaters on December 20, 2019 as one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. Here's what else you can look forward to watching on the big screen in this incredible year for movies.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
