The wait for the third installment of Marvel’s The Guardians of the Galaxy has been a bit of a bumpy one. From the pandemic to the firing and rehiring of James Gunn as director, the upcoming film has seen its fair share of delays. The road has been laden with updates, though, and Chris Pratt has just given us a huge one on when Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will begin filming.

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he talks about his upcoming film The Tomorrow War (and in a very Andy Dwyer fashion, think it’s Kimmel’s very last show), Chris Pratt gives Marvel fans an update on when the next Guardians of the Galaxy will start filming. Spoiler alert: it’s soon. Here’s what the Parks and Recreation stars says:

We will be shooting that at the end of this year and the beginning of next year, so like November to maybe April.

It’s about time. Kidding aside, that’s super exciting news. Usually Marvel is a well-oiled machine, especially regarding the order in which they release their films. Like most other current franchises, though, the studio has had to adjust their expectations this past year.

Unlike other films that have seen delays this past year, Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been in the works for a lot longer. In the same interview, Chris Pratt says the script has actually been done for years now and jokes it’s been so long he can’t even remember everything that happened to delay the film. Same though, Chris. Same.

Marvel fans can re-watch the Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU on Disney+. You can use this link to sign up for the streaming service.

Chris Pratt also sounds super hyped up about the fact that James Gunn will be directing the film after all, as he pretty much jumps out of his seat to say it. Again: same, Chris. Here’s what he says, in his own pumped up words:

Yes, well the script was written years ago because we were going to do it years ago, and due to unforeseen circumstances and then a pandemic - I can't - I don't even really remember what happened, but for some reason we didn't shoot it. And now, by the grace of God, we will shoot it, and it will be directed by James Gunn, and that's really fucking cool!

You really don’t hear the f-bomb dropped too terribly often by Chris Pratt, but I think it’s totally warranted here. Pratt definitely isn’t the only one excited about James Gunn’s return to Marvel, especially after he went the DC route for his reimaging of The Suicide Squad. That blockbuster releases in just a couple short months - right before Pratt expects to start filming on Guardians 3.

Even though filming on the next Guardians of the Galaxy film sounds like it's going to start soon, we won’t see the product of that for some time. We really don’t have to wait long at all to see Chris Pratt in action though, as his film The Tomorrow War is set to drop to Amazon Prime this Friday. And we can expect some aliens in the film, too.
