You’d think Steven Soderbergh would be happy with a cast that includes Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and Jude Law, but no; he wants more. According to Deadline Hollywood, Soderbergh is adding Gwyneth Paltrow to the roster for his thriller Contagion about a virus outbreak.

There’s been a fair share of deadly virus movies, but the concept still has the potential to be fresh. Little is known about the plot so the possibilities are endless. Soderbergh could go the zombie route and do something along the lines of Dawn of the Dead or Zombieland or something with a disease control focus like Outbreak. There’s also the disease remedy-gone-wrong scheme as in I Am Legend or an attack of the trees like in The Happening. But of course we hope Soderbergh doesn’t opt for the latter.

Currently Soderbergh is working on Knockout, but will likely utilize his $60 million budget to bring Scott Z. Burn’s Contagion screenplay to life next. The cast is a good sign, but hold out for more plot details before formulating an outlook.
