The MTV Movie Awards might have a stated purpose of handing out popcorn and celebrating achievement, but more than that, they’ve always been about having fun. There’s no elitist vibes of self-congratulatory auras; there’s just famous men and women cutting loose and having a damn good time. Thus, it’s really no surprise the network decided to preempt the show this year with Ashton Kutcher’s Punk’d.
Conceived in 2003 as a way to catch his friends and fellow stars in compromising positions, Kutcher’s show was a raging success for several years before it was taken off the air in 2007. After a five-year hiatus, it returned a few months ago with a string of guest hosts, but it hasn’t quite recaptured the original magic. Earlier tonight however it came close. Kutcher and company first convinced Drake he was caught in an earthquake. Later, they duped Kim Kardashian and Scott Disick into a gas pump explosion and an altercation with a wallet-thieving fan. You can take a look at the footage below…
I’ll be the first to admit Punk’d is a lot of fun in small doses, but I’m not really sure if I’m ready to see Ashton Kutcher take the trucker hat back out and do his thing on a weekly basis. I kind of think I’m fine with keeping the show in the past. What do you think? Would you like to see Kutcher get his hands dirty again, or are you fine with him spending his time doing other things? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
