I guess we can stop watching the throne. According to some insider scoop, Jay-Z actually can't stand his frequent collaborator and supposed friend Kanye West. The surprising revelation comes two days after West went on one of his famous rants during his concert, calling out Jay-Z and his streaming service Tidal.
An insider source told Page Six that Jay-Z thinks Kanye West is a "nut job," and that he can only handle him for a few minutes before getting annoyed.
Jay can't stand him. He looks at him as this crazy, eccentric motherfucker he can tolerate in small doses. Kanye is a nut job. Everyone knows that.
But if Jay-Z really can't stand to be around Kanye West for a couple minutes, then how do you explain their successful 2011 collaboration album Watch the Throne and its subsequent year-long world tour? Allegedly, Jay was all in it for the money. The source says Jay was not happy to be working so much with West, but still decided to do it because he knew it would be great for his bank account.
There was so much money to be made. Jay was like, 'I'm gonna knock this out. We're going to do a tour to bring in millions of dollars. I can tolerate that.'
This information comes shortly after Kanye West, apparently, went on a long rant about Jay-Z at his Wednesday night concert in Seattle. When the beat to West's track with Jay-Z, "Ni**as in Paris" began to play at the show, West asked for the track to be skipped, and began performing his solo song "Can't Tell Me Nothing" instead.
Reportedly, Kanye West then launched into a long tirade centering on Jay-Z, saying that Jay wasn't a good enough friend after West's wife Kim Kardashian was robbed recently, and that Jay had never even set up a playdate with his daughter with wife Beyonce, Blue Ivy, and West's daughter North West, despite the fact that they're around the same age.
The rant then turned to the business side of things, as Kanye West vented his frustration over his verse in Drake's song "Pop Style" being cut from the track's album version due to Jay-Z. According to West, Jay allegedly had his and West's verses of the single pulled after Drake decided to release his album Views exclusively through Apple Music, a decision that angered Jay since he owns the competing streaming service Tidal. West said that this annoying business dispute is the reason he wouldn't be interested in a second collaboration album with Jay-Z.
There will never be a 'Watch the Throne 2'... That's the reason I wasn't on [the album version of 'Pop Style']. I wasn't on the song 'cause of Hov, because of some Tidal/Apple bullshit. Every time I perform ['Ni**as in Paris'], I think about this shit.
Well, apparently the contempt is mutual. I just hope Kim Kardashian and Beyonce can still get along.
