It started out of the blue with Kanye returning to the social media site with a simple hand-written message, noting "Happy Valentine's Day Babe."

From there, Kanye West posted a vintage assortment of famous couples throughout the years -- including, but not limited to, Michelle and Barack Obama, Madonna and Sean Penn, Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock, Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton, Marilyn Manson and Rose McGowan, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, Elvis and Priscilla, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, Sonny and Cher and more.

Does it matter that some of these couples are no longer together? Evidently not. But it's the thought that counts, of course, and it is an unexpected but nevertheless kind-hearted gesture. This photo collection includes a number of celebrities who pop up more than once here, including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Madonna and Johnny Depp, along with a fictional couple in Carrie and Mr. Big from Sex and the City. It also pays tribute to a few lovers no longer with us, such as Notorious B.I.G., John F. and Jackie Kennedy, Michael Jackson, Basquiat, Whitney Houston and David Bowie, to name a few.

Kanye West's several hour social media project led up to a vintage photo with his mother-in-law, Kris Kardashian, and her late husband, Robert Kardashian, before Kanye finished with, of course, two pictures with him and Kim. One is the picture above. The other, more recent picture featured them in attendance at a special event.

Kim followed suit with Kanye's V-Day message. However, her response wasn't quite as elaborate. She shared a picture of the couple embracing, followed by a little love message.

It's a special Valentine's Day for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, as they recently welcomed their third child into the world via a surrogate last month. The process comes after the difficulties of Kim's first two pregnancies, but they worked through it together and they appear stronger than ever. The baby girl is the third daughter shared by the couple, after four-year-old North and two-year-old Saint. The family is evidently feeling very affectionate this year. It's unclear if Kanye is planning to stay on social media again for awhile, or if this moment was merely a brief return to share his unwavering love with his wife on this special day. He hasn't posted anything since then. But in any case, Kanye and Kim appear to have had a good Valentine's Day this year.
