Now that Rihanna is 30, she's taking it down a few notches. To honor the big day on Tuesday, the singer decided to host a more intimate affair. Instead of a big event, Rihanna celebrated in low-key fashion in New York City, with her mom, her goddaughter and Paris Hilton all among the limited attendance.
As reported by TMZ, Rihanna decided not to make the start of her 30s a huge commotion. Held in a fancy, swanky restaurant in the heart of the Big Apple, Rihanna's party only included her family and her closest friends. In addition to Paris Hilton, and Rihanna's mother, the event also included Chris Zylka, Hilton's fiancee, Toni Braxton, and Rihanna's best friend Melissa Forte. Noticeably not at the event, however, was Hassan Jameel, Rihanna's billionaire heir boyfriend. It's not yet clear why Jameel didn't make it to the get-together, so let's not spread any break-up rumors yet.
Of course, it's possible that Rihanna has something a little bigger planned for later on -- perhaps even this weekend. But for now, this is how Rihanna choose to bring in the next decade of her life. She didn't even let any phones get inside, requesting that everyone put their cells away in a pouch to assure that no photos were taken into the venue.
Even if Rihanna decided not to make a big scene out of the smaller event, that doesn't mean she didn't turn a few heads during the night. Rihanna stunned in a vibrant purple frock, letting everyone know that she was the center of attention for the evening.
In addition to the semi-casual get-together, Rihanna also used her birthday to pay tribute to her mother on Instagram. Posting a photo of herself as a baby, she wrote a heartfelt tribute to the woman who brought her into this world, saying that the day was "just as much" her birthday as it was Rihanna's.
Of late, Rihanna has done less music and more acting. She was recently seen in last summer's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, where she played a shape-shifting, exotic dancer alien. Side Note: Ignore the reviews for this one (except for our own, of course), because the movie is actually pretty fun. The musician also had an extended guest appearance on the last season of Bates Motel, where she stepped up to play the legendary character of Marion Crane. Coming up next, Rihanna also has a highly-anticipated appearance in Ocean's 8, which hits theaters this summer. She also recently worked with Kendrick Lamer on the single "Loyalty," which recently won the pair a Grammy last month for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Performance. With that in mind, things are looking good for Rihanna. We hope she had a nice birthday celebration.
