In the weeks building up to the final season of Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke made a surprising confession: in the midst of filming the early seasons of the hit HBO fantasy drama, the film/TV actress suffered a series of life-threatening brain aneurysms that put everything in jeopardy at the rise of her career. The news came as a shock to many, as Clarke penned the revealing details in an essay for The New Yorker. Although there was at least one person who knew that Clarke's life on the balance: Jason Momoa. The fellow Game of Thrones actor reveals that he knew how serious her medical concerns became, and Momoa worried that he would lose someone he grew very close to. Here's what Momoa recently said on the red carpet.
I've kind of been a part of that whole situation for a very long time, so we've had so many scares and trying to find the right way to come out and help. I just think it's beautiful that... she's so brave in helping the world and trying to raise awareness. I'm very sad, because we almost lost her the first time. So, I love her to bits and she's here and she's going to do great things with it and teach the world.
During the season eight premiere of Game of Thrones on Wednesday in New York City, Entertainment Tonight caught up with Jason Momoa, and brought up Emilia Clarke's autobiographical article, where the actress discussed the hardships she faced during the earlier seasons of the beloved series when her life was on the line. Momoa got emotional talking about his co-star's health scare, recounting the worry he felt during these earlier, uncertain moments. But the Aquaman actor is very much glad to know that Clarke is on the mend.
Thanks to their scenes together during the first season of Game of Thrones, Jason Momoa and Emilia Clarke grew a close bond on set. And they remained close even when Momoa's tenure in the series ended. To realize that your friend might be lost at a moment's notice can certainly be a scary thought. Thankfully, as detailed in The New Yorker article (which is worth a read, if you find the time to do so), Clarke pulled through.
Now the actress has started a charity called Same You, which aims to increase rehabilitation access for people who have recently suffered a stroke or brain injury. Emilia Clarke believed it was finally time to share her story, since she wanted to raise awareness and hopefully inspire some good.
With Game of Thrones winding down to a close, the actors and actresses of the series have found themselves reflecting on the past and how they've gotten to this point in their lives. In that spirit, Emilia Clarke finally felt compelled to share her story. And Jason Momoa is very glad to know that his friend is still around today.
