With more-than-a-decade of big screen heroics under his belt playing Steve Rogers, i.e. Captain America, inside the constantly-expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans has made it clear he's ready to hang up the shield and call it a day from saving the day. The actor has played the role since 2011's underrated Captain America: The First Avenger, and his latest iteration as the world-saving character can be seen in this weekend's gargantuan blockbuster, Avengers: Endgame.
No movie spoilers here, but Chris Evans already said going into that film that he wanted to move on from the MCU. If he holds to that, a Marvel-less future awaits him. The world is his oyster. He can basically do whatever he desires. So, what's next on his docket? Besides other movie projects, he's hoping for a wife and kids.
I really want kids. Yeah, I do. I like pretty pedestrian, domestic things. I want a wife, I want kids. I like ceremony. I want to carve pumpkins and decorate Christmas trees and shit like that.
Chris Evans' comments were made during his cover story with Men's Journal. Obviously, many people want to know what Chris Evans plans to do next. It's the million dollar question, after all. With his hefty contract with the Marvel Cinematic Universe expired once the actor finishes up the publicity rounds for this weekend's mega-blockbuster, Evans appears free to live a casual, more hassle-free life than his days swinging punches and fighting bad guys on the big screen.
Though some actors might want to take this opportunity to expand their acting careers -- and Chris Evans does have some cool projects lined up -- it sounds like Evans really wants something more personal and homegrown. More specifically, the blockbuster actor wants to settle down and raise a family.
It can be easy to forget that movie stars are people like you and me — particularly when they are often projected onto the biggest movie screens in the world. Celebrities often live hectic lives; it's never easy to balance your career and your family life, especially when you make movies for a living. Now that the actor's biggest role is winding down, however, he has an opening. He can settle down, away from the flashing cameras and the adoring fans, and he can choose to live a simpler, less paparazzi-filled life with a wife and kids by his side. It's a simple dream, but now that Chris Evans has achieved enormous success with the Marvel movies, it sounds like his aspirations are going to be shrinking down considerably.
In the past, Chris Evans has loved and lost. Most famously, he was recently in a relationship with his Gifted co-star Jenny Slate. The publication asked Evans if he thought there was so much surprise at his relationship with Slate because he seemed like such a "bro." Here's what Evans told the magazine.
Yeah, I think she may have even [considered me a 'bro'], at first. But then she was just like, ‘Man, you’re not like what I thought you were going to be.’ I can speak fluent bro, but I don’t consider myself one. I wear a hat, and I drink beer, and I like sports. But I was a big theater dork in high school, you know what I mean?
In the past, Chris Evans expressed interest in spending more time behind-the-camera opposed to in front of it. The actor directed one film previously, Before We Go back in 2015. And now that he's done acting in Marvel movies, he has more time to pursue his filmmaking ambitions. While that's still on the table, it sounds like a family life is his primary goal at this point. He's not getting any younger, after all, and if the 37-year-old wants to settle down and raise a few kids, this is the perfect time to do that.
Chris Evans' time as Captain America is drawing to a close, and for those filmgoers who saw the movie already (without diving into spoilers), this hopeful sentiment is a very lovely and sweet-hearted way to imagine Evans leaving the world of blockbusters behind him. His days fighting bad guys on the big screen are winding down, but the second chapter of his life is still wide open. And for Evans, that might mean spending a few more days away from the cameras as the actor focuses on his much more personal aspirations.
