Chris Evans Says Russos ‘Love Beating Up Steve Rogers’ In Avengers: Doomsday Tease

Fans have spent years watching the Marvel movies in order, both in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. Throughout much of that time Chris Evans played Steve Rogers, starring in seven movies (in addition to some A+ cameos). He'll once again be back as part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, and recently joked about how the Russo Brothers love to beat Captain America up. Let's break it all down.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday has been limited, but the Captain America teaser confirmed that Evans is back playing his signature role. While appearing at Fan Expo Boston (via Twitter), he joked about the way Steve has been treated by The Russo Brothers over the years, saying:

The Russos love beating up Steve Rogers. Their favorite thing to do is to just beat the crap out of him. To them, that’s what makes a hero, and that’s someone who gets punched so many times but still gets up. So they keep finding new ways to kick his butt. And this one was brutal.

I mean, he's not wrong. The Russos directed both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War before moving over to the Avengers franchise with Infinity War and Endgame. Poor Steve Rogers has taken a ton of blows in those projects, although as Evans points out, he always ends up getting back up. After all, he can "do this all day."

With the pair of filmmakers once again for the next two Avengers flicks, fans are especially invested in the upcoming Marvel movies. And if the Materialists actor's comments are any indication, we should probably expect Steve Rogers to get beat up during their runtimes. We'll just have to wait and see what the Russo Brothers have up their sleeves when these highly anticipated blockbusters are released.

These comments will likely inspire more theories and questions about what's going to happen when Doomsday hits theaters this December. Fans are curious about exactly how Chris Evans' character will join the fray after Steve got his happy ending in the last Avengers movie. The limited footage of the next blockbuster shows him once again wielding Mjolnir, and rocking street clothes rather than Captain America's suit. How will he be convinced to take up arms again and fight Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom? Only time will tell, but I have to assume that leaving Peggy won't be easy.

If history continues repeating itself, we should probably expect Steve to get beat up a bit during Doomsday. But with Marvel's tight security guarding the movie's secrets, we will probably have to wait until the movie's release for any real answers.

All will be revealed when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th as part of the 2026 movie release list. Hopefully we get more footage sometime soon.
