Will Amanda Bynes Ever Have A Career Again?

This past weekend, Amanda Bynes should have been at Comic-Con. She should have been alongside many of her best and brightest peers in San Diego to present an exciting upcoming movie or a television show or a comedy project. The twenty-seven-year-old should have been excitedly talking about all the things she wants to accomplish. Instead, she was carted off to an unidentified mental health facility following a frightening incident with a lighter, a driveway and burning pants.

Details are still a little fuzzy on what exactly happened, but according to E! News, Bynes was hanging out in the driveway of an elderly woman’s home. At first, she didn’t cause any kind of issues, but at some point, she reportedly found herself in the possession of a gas can and a lighter. Later, she allegedly caught her pants on fire and wound up starting a pretty large blaze on the woman’s driveway, at least until the police showed up and took her away on a 5150 psych evaluation.

At this point, I haven’t seen one single, competent why from anywhere on the Internet. By all accounts, this poor woman was a complete stranger. She had nothing against her because she didn’t even know her, which means Bynes picked the house randomly or knew someone who used to live in it and didn’t realize they’d actually already moved. Even so, it still doesn’t explain why she felt the need to start a fire or how in the world her pants ended up going up in smoke.

On the surface, it seems like Bynes has gone too far off the deep end to ever find her way back. She’s publically announced she’ll never act again, and she’s continually broke laws, gotten kicked out of buildings, ran into cars, lost her license and basically acted like the most unreliable human being in the world. I can’t imagine why anyone would take the chance to hire her.

In actuality, however, Bynes’ situation sounds very similar to that of Britney Spears. The beloved musician was suffering from some kind of undiagnosed mental illness a few years ago when she started acting erratically. Eventually, her behavior got so bad she too had to be carted off and taken to the hospital. Years later, that’s all just a distant memory. She now works, mothers her children and behaves like a productive member of society.
