Was Justin Bieber Joking When He Said Sixteenth Chapel On Letterman?

David Letterman doesn’t like tattoos. He never has, and he never will. The host made that abundantly clear last night when Justin Bieber stopped by The Late Show with the words “Believe” newly etched onto his arm. The two bantered back-and-forth about it, a bit aggressively, for a few minutes before Letterman asked the singer to promise he at least wouldn’t get the Sistine Chapel tattooed on his arm. Bieber verified that he has no intention of getting the “Sixteenth Chapel”, and of course, Letterman pointed out to the world the Biebs was educated in Canada.

Immediately after the sitdown, blogs went crazy pointing out the Biebs’ foolish mistake, but his fans have since shot back, arguing he was intentionally making a joke. Maybe that’s the case. Maybe not. Watch the video below and decide for yourself…

Vince Vaughn famously made light of the Sixteenth Chapel in the movie The Break-Up, but based on Justin’s face, it doesn’t really seem like he was trying to make a joke. I’ll be the first to admit Letterman was a little harsh on the Biebs throughout the interview, but in this case, it seems to me like Justin dug his own grave and deserved what he got.
