Agent Carter Season 2 Is Bringing Back Two Major Characters

When Agent Carter returns for Season 2 next year, it will take the titular protagonist to the star-filled land of Hollywood. While the new environment will provide fresh challenges for Peggy to face, so far the only actor that was confirmed to return is (to no one’s surprise) Haley Atwell, leaving some fans wondering whether any of her supporting cast would be returning. Fortunately, we now know Peggy won’t be without familiar faces, as Edwin Jarvis and Daniel Sousa are being brought back for the period piece’s sophomore season.

Entertainment Weekly revealed that James D’Arcy and Enver Gjokaj will reprise their roles as Edwin and Daniel, respectively, in Agent Carter Season 2 as series regulars. Assuming both characters appear in every episode, this means that viewers will get extra helpings of them this time around, as Season 2 has been expanded to 10 episodes. The article also notes that there are deals being worked out to bring back Chad Michael Murray as Jack Thompson, Bridget Regan as Dottie Underwood and Lyndsy Fonseca as Angie Martinelli, though these haven’t been finalized.

Although officially employed as Howard Stark’s butler, Edwin Jarvis helped Peggy out on her Season 1 missions off-the-books, and his dry British wit often provided comic relief. Although Edwin and Peggy are now friends, he originally was assigned to assist her on Howard’s orders, so unless Howard is somehow mixed up in the Season 2 events, I’m curious to see how Edwin gets involved with Peggy’s adventures this time. Fans also know that Edwin will eventually be the inspiration for Tony Stark’s A.I. J.A.R.V.I.S., who in turn becomes The Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

In Season 1, Daniel Sousa was Peggy’s coworker at the Strategic Scientific Reserve, and unlike most of the other agents, he didn’t treat Peggy like she was inferior to the men, having dealt with that feeling personally due to his war injury. In the Season 1 finale, Daniel asked Peggy out for a drink, but she gave him a rain check. The Season 2 synopsis said that Peggy may find a “new love,” though it’s unclear whether this will be with Daniel or someone new. If it’s the latter, then Daniel will need to prepare for some competition. As for his overall involvement, perhaps the SSR sends him to work with Peggy to uncover whatever sinister machinations are hatching in Hollywood.

Agent Carter Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in 2016 on ABC during Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s midseason hiatus.
