How Much Melissa McCarthy Will Be In The Gilmore Girls Revival
After months of planning and a few crossed wires, Amy Sherman-Palladino and the team over at Gilmore Girls finally found a way to get Melissa McCarthy back for the Netflix revival. While we've known for a while that McCarthy's tenure on the series would probably be brief thanks to her busy schedule, we recently learned exactly what to expect from Sookie's return to the Gilmore Girls universe. In fact, it looks like she will have one substantial scene in the TV series. Here's what Amy Sherman-Palladino had to say in a recent interview:
Speaking with TV Line at the Gilmore Girls premiere, Amy Sherman-Palladino revealed two key pieces of information. First, she confirmed that Melissa McCarthy was only on set for one day, which echoes earlier statements from the showrunner about how she was ready and prepared to write Melissa McCarthy a scene should the actress find free time. After Melissa McCarthy finally said yes to return to Gilmore Girls, it looks like Sherman-Palladino made sure she would get as much out of McCarthy as possible. Thus, a 10-page scene was born.
If you wondered if things have changed for Sookie in the nearly ten years since Gilmore Girls ended its initial run on The CW, she'll at least look the same. Amy Sherman-Palladino also confirmed that Sookie will be wearing her famous ponytails when the show is back in the saddle. I know you've really been at the edge of your seat waiting for the answer to that one.
Melissa McCarthy might only be around during one episode of the 4-part drama, but it's clear she will have a substantial scene, and she won't be the only original series character making an appearance on the new Netflix series. Main characters like Lorelei, Rory, Luke, and Emily will be back in a regular capacity, but other former characters will at least be popping into Stars Hollow for a memorable scene or two. These include but are by no means limited to Sean Gunn, Keiko Agena, Yanic Truesdale, Jared Padalecki, Matt Czuchry, Milo Ventimiglia, and Liza Weil. Although a ton of names will 100% be returning, we have learned that a few actors will not be back, including Scott Cohen and Wayne Wilcox. The former played a love interest for Lorelei and the latter played a friend and potential suitor for Rory once she started college.

If you'd like to go in without a ton of information, you don't have too much longer to wait. The new Gilmore Girls series hits the schedule on Friday, November 25 at 12:01 a.m. PT, only on Netflix.
