Freeform is getting into the Marvel game with a brand new series called Cloak and Dagger, and it promises to be unlike anything else on television. The show will follow the stories of an interracial duo who form a deep bond despite unexpected obstacles, and it has a comic book twist. The two teens also happen to have superpowers. Tyrone Johnson - a.k.a. Cloak - has the ability to envelope bad guys in darkness, while Tandy Bowen - a.k.a. Dagger - can emit light daggers to use as weapons in battle. Now, we have an idea of who will fill out the cast.
Andrea Roth has signed on the play Melissa Bowen, who is Tandy's optimistic mom. While she's not the easiest person in the world for a girl like Tandy to relate to, she truly loves her daughter and wants what's best for her family. Roth is best known for her role as Janet Gavin in all seven seasons of FX's Rescue Me.
Gloria Reuben will play Tyrone's mom on Cloak and Dagger. Adina Johnson devotes everything she has to building the life she wants for her son. In fact, she spends so much time trying to build his life for him that she sometimes forgets how to show her love for him. Reuben's big break into primetime came with the role of Jeanie Boulet on ER, and she's recently made her mark on cable TV as Krista Gordon on Mr. Robot.
Miles Mussenden is set to tackle the role of Tyrone's father. Michael Johnson works hard at a desk job to try and keep his family as happy and comfortable as possible. Like Adina, he wants to do everything in his power to give his son the resources to grow into a great man. Mussenden is most memorable for his work on Bloodline, Army Wives, and Queen Sugar.
Carl Lundstedt is on board to play Liam, who is Tandy's partner in crime/boyfriend. They get into their fair share of action in their hometown, but Liam has dreams of a bigger life. Viewers may remember Lundstedt from his stint as a post-surgical patient in Grey's Anatomy Season 12.
James Saito will play Dr. Bernard Sanjo. He has unique place in Tyrone's life as an emotional touchstone, and their dynamic is unlike anything else in either of their lives. Saito is best known of the big screen for his role in Life of Pi, and he had a memorable part in an episode of CBS' Hawaii Five-0.
Finally, J.D. Evermore will portray Detective Connors in Cloak and Dagger. He paints himself as an imposing protector of law and order, but he does so to hide a major secret. Evermore is best known for his work on True Detective, Rectify, and The Walking Dead.
Cloak and Dagger is shaping up with a pretty intriguing cast, but it may still be a while before the show hits the small screen. Although it received a series order back in April 2016, behind-the-scenes changes and rewrites mean that we might not get to see Cloak and Dagger on Freeform any time soon.
