Supergirl Visits The Past In Exclusive New Clip, Check Out The Perfectly Cast Kara And Alex

Supergirl has taken the Danvers sisters on a rough emotional ride in Season 3 so far, and the next episode will see Kara and Alex returning home for a visit. Eliza Danvers will be back as well, which is very good news for poor Alex, who probably needs all the love she can get after her recent heartbreak. The episode will also feature the Danvers girls visiting their pasts, back in the years before they were the close-knit team they are in the present. In an exclusive clip of what's to come, young Kara and Alex spend a day in school, and we can already see how perfectly cast the actresses were. Take a look!

Supergirl has somehow managed to find two young actresses who could totally pass for a young Melissa Benoist and Chyler Leigh as the teenage versions of Kara and Alex. Izabela Vidovic is the spitting image of Melissa Benoist as Kara, and Olivia Nikkanen seems to have captured the mannerisms that Chyler Leigh brings to Alex pretty perfectly. It shouldn't be difficult at all to believe that these actresses are younger versions of the Supergirl characters we've come to know and love over the past few years.

The clip proves that Alex was a model student even back as a teenager in high school, and Kara doesn't seem to appreciate Alex being able to rattle off so many Revolutionary War details when she couldn't even get George Washington's name right. Of course, Kara made up for falling behind Alex academically by totally outdoing her in gym class. Alex is lucky Kara had enough restraint not to scoot even faster up and down the rope. Somewhat adorably, Kara's drop from the bottom of the rope proves that she's had the superhero landing down since she was a teen. Her attempts to bond with other kids by raving about Superman's defeat of Lex Luthor don't look like they'll win her hordes of admirers, but we'll have to wait and see. All things considered, there's a lot to be excited about.

The episode, called "Midvale," will reveal a side of Kara and Alex's relationship that has never been shown before. While visiting the Earth home where she grew up, Kara will think back on the death of a childhood friend and how it impacted her dynamic with Alex back when they were in high school. Given how close the sisters are now that they're fighting bad guys together in National City, we can bet that whatever happened to forge their bond was quite significant. For their sakes now as they're trying to get past their devastation at the losses of Mon-El and Maggie, we have to hope that their visit back home won't be all painful memories.

Be sure to tune in to The CW tonight at 8 p.m. ET to catch young Kara and Alex in action on Supergirl. The big four-show crossover extravaganza between Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Arrow is coming up in the not-too-distant future, and we can even look forward to the Legion of Super-Heroes later in Season 3. Throw in new supervillain Reign, and there's an awful lot in store. For the shows that won't be back in the next year, swing by our list of all the 2017 TV cancellations.
