Suits Is Probably Losing Patrick J. Adams And More If Season 8 Happens

Suits has been a staple of USA programming for the past seven seasons, and fans have been hooked on the legal and personal drama. The show has been anchored over the years so far by Patrick J. Adams as con man-turned-lawyer Mike, and he's gone on quite a journey as a character. Now, it seems that journey may be coming to an end on the small screen. Patrick J. Adams is reportedly expected to depart Suits after fulfilling his contract at the end of Season 7, and he's not the only one.

In addition to Patrick J. Adams, Deadline reports that Meghan Markle is likely to leave the series as well. Markle has been on board from the beginning as Rachel, who has gone on a journey of her own as a paralegal-turned-law student. Rachel and Mike have been each other's primary love interests throughout the series, so fans have seen a lot of Adams and Markle on screen together.

If Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle are both leaving Suits, the show at least has the opportunity to write their characters out without necessarily breaking them up. Mike and Rachel can ride off into the sunset together, and we won't have to watch one of them missing the other if Season 8 does happen. While fans may be bummed to lose two original characters, it may be for the best if they depart at the same time.

All things considered, the likely departure of both actors doesn't come as a huge surprise. Patrick J. Adams was recently married, and he has dabbled in directing in recent years. As for Meghan Markle, she has been in a relationship with none other than Prince Harry for a while now, and maintaining both the romance and her career in the U.S. hasn't been easy on anybody. If the relationship ever progresses to the point that they want to tie the knot, a member of the Royal Family probably can't also be a regular on Suits.

Assuming Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle do indeed leave Suits behind, they'll follow in the footsteps of the venerable Gina Torres, who left her regular role as Jessica Pearson in Season 6, leaving a big hole in the Suits ensemble. She did later sign on for a Jessica-centric spinoff with a new cast of characters that is slated to kick off with a Suits backdoor pilot in 2018, but Suits has not been the same since she left. If Suits scores a Season 8 even after Adams and Markle leave, it may feel like a bit of a reboot. We'll have to wait and see.

Suits will return to USA for the second half of Season 7 in early 2018. Be sure to stay tuned to CinemaBlend for news other whether or not Suits scores the renewal for Season 8.
