John Krasinski in Jack Ryan Season 1

April is turning out to be an outstanding month for John Krasinski. Before his new series Jack Ryan has even gotten a chance to premiere on Amazon Prime, the streamer has already given the go-ahead for a second season of the action series. Amazon announced the news today, along with a few details about the upcoming season.

Of course, understanding the premise of the first season may prove helpful to kick things off. Jack Ryan is the first television adaptation of author Tom Clancy's popular protagonist. The series stars John Krasinski as Jack Ryan. According to Amazon's website, Season 1 finds Jack thrust into the eye of a startling mystery involving suspicious bank transfers and a potential terrorist attack.

As you may expect with a series of this nature, the second season will fall in a similar vein. Amazon teases that in Season 2, Jack will confront the dangerous forces in control of a democratic regime in South America. Amazon is wasting no time getting the second season in front of cameras. Production is set to begin this summer. Filming will span Europe, South America, and the United States.

While Amazon did not reveal a release date for Season 2, we do know the second season will be comprised of eight episodes. Amazon did share a bit of casting news surrounding the second season. Season 1 star Wendell Pierce will return as James Greer.

In case you had any doubts, John Krasinski will return as Jack Ryan. Krasinski is the latest actor to take on the role. Chris Pine played Ryan in the character's last feature film, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. The film was released in 2014. Krasinski is the fifth actor to star in the role.

Alec Baldwin originated the on-screen interpretation of Jack Ryan in the 1990 film, The Hunt for Red October. Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck followed before Chris Pine took over the reins.
